Morgan House Preservation Fund

On December 15, 2016, a campaign was launched to raise money for the future preservation of historic Morgan House. All monies collected in this drive will be used exclusively for the preservation, maintenance, and repairs to Morgan House.  The account will be managed for the Winnebago County Historical & Archaeological Society by the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation.

The need to raise funds became evident about a year ago when several major unexpected repairs that began late in 2015 made a significant impact to our general fund. Our aging hot water heating system failed and had to be replaced.  In the process of installing a new heating system, we discovered problems within our chimney. The original chimney lining had collapsed and created potential safety issues for our tenants and the house in general. Due to the age of the house, a professional chimney company specializing in historic homes was hired to replace it.  Other repairs included replacement of a leaking steam pipe, sewer pipe and sump pump, tenant furnace repairs, and electrical upgrades.  The costs for these repairs amounted to over $31,000.  All of these repairs were unexpected and put quite a strain on our general fund.

Additionally, we know we will be in need of a full roof replacement in the next two to five years.  We are repairing roof leaks as they appear, but we realize this is only a short-term fix.  The estimated cost for a new roof is between $40,000-$50,000 and could be more depending on what is found during the work.  We also will need to replace the driveway which has disintegrated badly.  The cost for a new asphalt driveway is estimated to be around $5,000.

We are very pleased to announce that the John E. Kuenzl Foundation will generously support our fundraising effort by agreeing to match, dollar for dollar, up to $35,000 of donations received!  Our goal is raise $35,000 in donations.  With the matching funds available, we will achieve a foundation of $70,000 to prepare us for these critical repairs in the next few years.

We are asking for your support in our effort to preserve this historic landmark. You can print this donation form and mail it to us, or make your donation to the fund online through the OACF website.

Thank you for your generous support!
